PM Modi visits gurdwara to woo farmers

As the ongoing farmers’ protest entered its 25th day on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a surprise visit to Gurdwara Rakabganj in Delhi and paid tributes to Guru Tegh Bahadur. Modi’s visit to the gurdwara came a day after Guru Tegh Bahadur’s death anniversary was observed.

PM Modi offered prayers during his visit to the gurdwara for which no police bandobast or traffic barriers were put in place to restrict the movement of the common man. On the Delhi borders witnessing protest since 25 days, farmer leaders announced their next moves on Sunday.

Several farmer leaders appealed to people in the country to bang utensils to drown out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat on December 27. They also announced a day-long fast on Monday and that farmers will halt toll collection on highways in Haryana from December 25 to 27.

After his surprise visit to the gurdwara, PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter and said he felt “blessed” and “deeply inspired” by the kindness of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

“This morning, I prayed at the historic Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, where the pious body of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was cremated. I felt extremely blessed. I, like millions around the world, am deeply inspired by the kindnesses of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji,” PM Modi tweeted.

In another tweet, PM Modi said, “It is the special Kripa of the Guru Sahibs that we will mark the special occasion of the 400th Parkash Parv of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji during our Government’s tenure. Let us mark this blessed occasion in a historic way and celebrate the ideals of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji.”

PM Modi repeatedly shared photos taken during his visit to the gurdwara. It is noteworthy that the same photos were repeatedly shared with tweets in Hindi, English and Punjabi.
