Polavaram water for irrigation by 2022 Kharif: AP CM

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday has made an announcement that water will be released from Polavaram Dam for Kharif 2022. He has made it clear that dam height will not be decreased even by a Millimetre.

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh conducted an aerial view before physical inspection of the Polavaram dam site. He discussed about the progress of the Project with irrigation department officials and contractors on the dam itself.

After examination of the construction progress and a detailed review with officials and contractor, Jagan Mohan Reddy lambasted on the critiques.

“A false propaganda is being made on the height of the Dam. There is no change in it. The FRL level will be 45.72 meters.”

The Chief Minister said the water storage will be increased gradually to the level of 45.72 meters. He further stated that rehabilitation works would be carried out in order of Priority.

CM said No matter where in the country the dam is built, water will not be stored fully in the first year. In view of the safety rules, limiting the water storage in the first year to 33 percent and to 50 in the second year, he added. CM said that CWC rule applies to all dams in the country.

“Firstly, the rehabilitation works with an estimated cost of Rs 3,330 crores will be taken up in flood prone areas when water storage is at 41.5 meters. We will gradually increase the water storage to 45.72 meters.”

Spillway works should be completed by May

CM ordered the officials and contractor to complete spillway and spill channel works by the end of May. In view of the 2020 Kharif target total works must be completed by 2021 December, Jagan added.
